Centre for Sensing, Signals and Wireless Technology
SSWT
The Centre for Sensing, Signals and Wireless Technologies (SSWT) is one of four Centres that constitute the Institute for Research into Applicable Computing
The SSWT brings together expertise in the areas of sensor technologies, signal processing and wireless networks. The breadth and depth of the expertise make the Centre rich with research and innovation potential.
The SSWT's vision is to ensure efficient signal capturing, processing and transmission using advanced wireless infrastructure. We have had notable innovations in imaging, photonics, water quality sensing, radio frequency energy harvesting and novel spectrally efficient signalling schemes. This has included several patent applications and numerous publications in a variety of journals and conferences.
We have an established track record in fundamental and industry-led research, consultancy and training course provision. We welcome collaboration with public and private sector organisations in the UK and overseas.
The University of Bedfordshire and SSWT hosted the IEEE Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP) conference in October 2017, the main annual event of the IEEE Signal Processing Society – Multimedia Signal Processing Committee.
The SSWT Laboratory Facilities Include:
- High-rate RF over fibre optics equipment including signal generator, single side band modulator and laser operating at 1555um
- Optical equipment and heterogeneous spectrum visual systems
- Modelling and simulation software for digital, analogue, RF and antenna systems
- Experimental software defined radio platforms
- 60 GHz experimental platform
- PCB and microwave circuit fabrication equipment
- State-of-the-art test and measurement equipment
Our lab facilities enable us to conduct research underpinned by theory, simulation and experimentation. The findings feed into our taught degree courses.
The Centre for Sensing, Signals and Wireless Technology consists of three special interest groups along with several cross-cutting themes:
Cross-cutting Themes
- Signal, image, video and 3D video processing
- Imaging sensor technologies
- Photonics
- Water quality monitoring
- Antennas and propagation
- Energy harvesting
- Efficiency Modulation and coding
- Short range wireless links
