Some students are entitled to have dependants with them during their studies. Dependants are mainly partners (such as a husband or wife) and children.

Recent announcements by the UK Government mean that postgraduate taught students who will begin their studies from January 2024 will no longer qualify to have their dependants with them while they study in the UK.

Students on postgraduate taught courses that have already started their course or are due to begin before January 2024 will continue to have the right to have dependants in the UK.

The recent changes also do not affect students currently studying postgraduate research degrees or those intending to do so after January 2024.
