What our students say

Maureen Edovic, MSc Public Health

Maureen Edovic

In 2006, Maureen Edovic completed her BSc in Biomedical Science. Whilst on the course she was employed as a Medical Laboratory Technician at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital within the Chemical Pathology department.

During that time she was also volunteering for a local HIV/AIDS charity which developed her interest in public health issues. This led to her enrolling on the MSc Public Health.

In 2007 at the age of 40 she graduated from the one year full-time course where she was awarded a Commendation in MSc Public Health.

"I chose to return to the University of Bedfordshire as I was impressed with the standard of teaching from when I completed my BSc the previous year."

"The course was interesting and varied. The lecturers were accommodating, especially as I was a mature student. There were students from various backgrounds in the health field and that made the learning process more involved and able to encompass the interests of the students registered to the course."

The knowledge acquired from completing the MSc provided Maureen with the preparatory skills to conduct research, write and implement public health policies and carry out health promotion campaigns.

The course allowed for intensive research in all aspects of public health issues.

Maureen gained an insight into local government services and responsibilities with reference to health improvement. The completion of the dissertation contributed to acquiring essential skills in Project Management.

Whilst on the masters’ programme Maureen developed a passionate interest in Diabetes and in 2008 she carried out a Diabetes Needs Assessment on behalf of the Luton PCT where she gained valuable experience and her interest in the subject matter intensified.

The completion of the Assessment prompted her to further her learning and in 2009 she was awarded a PgCert in Diabetes.
