Melsina is a Registered Mental Health Nurse, a qualified Teacher and a Fellow with the Higher Education Academy, England. She was awarded a BA Honours Degree in Mental Health Nursing in 2004 and a Professional Graduate Certificate in Post Compulsory Education (PGCE) in 2009 by the University of Bedfordshire.

Melsina started working in Higher Education in 2005 after spending 10 years in clinical practice as a Mental Health Nurse working in both in-patient and community settings with adults of working age and older adults.

Melsina has an interest in suicide prevention, postvention and intervention in clinical practice.

Her clinical experience of working with suicidal people and their families sparked her interest in this area of research when she was an undergraduate pre-registration student nurse.

Melsina has been exploring research in this area since 1996 which subsequently motivated her to select Suicide Prevention as the subject for her BA Honours Dissertation.

She has been actively involved in teaching pre-registration student nurses about suicide.

Currently, Melsina is doing her PhD research where she is exploring the experiences of mental health nurses in the aftermath of a patient's suicide.
