Visiting Professor

I am honoured to be a visiting professor at the University of Bedfordshire.

My career in public health service, education and research has spanned more than 30 years.

I graduated in Medicine from University College London in 1978 and then trained as a GP/family practitioner before discovering that public health was my real passion.

A Masters at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine began my journey as a public health physician and a family doctor, since when I have held senior roles in the NHS, medical education and the English Department of Health.

I am visiting professor with particular interest in public health education, research and practice. My main professional and research interest is in building capacity and capability across all sectors, in order to deliver better health and to reduce health inequalities.

Currently, in addition to occasional teaching on the MPH at Bedfordshire, I am joint Editor-in-chief of the peer reviewed journal Public Health, work as an advisor to NHS England and to the alcohol education charity, Drinkaware.

I was appointed OBE for services to Public Health in 2015.
