About the Centre

The Research Centre for Health Service Organisation and Delivery capitalises on local, national and international opportunities for collaborative interdisciplinary cross-boundary research and innovation in health.

With the current emphasis on primary care-led healthcare systems, integrated care, disease prevention, health service delivery and clinical teaching in the community, a strong research base in the key scientific disciplines that underpin such community and population-based strategies is essential.

The Centre for Health Service Organisation and Delivery in Putteridge Bury

A major goal of the Centre’s research programme is to further understand the factors which determine health and health behaviour and those aspects of local contexts, health systems and political economies that influence the successful implementation of proven health interventions and technologies.

The emphasis in the Centre is on multidisciplinary working and integration to create synergy and use researcher strengths to maximum effect. The Centre has strong collaborative links in the UK and overseas, as well co-hosting the Substance Misuse and Ageing Research Team (SMART) with the Institute for Applied Social Research.

We are currently conducting a number of studies in Social Prescription, Integrated Care and aspects of eHealth.

Practice and Policy Impact

Prof Yannis Pappas – RCHOD Director

Professor Pappas is a health services researcher with experience of working in the NHS and the Industry. Through his research, he aims to contribute to the planning and delivery of improved, more accessible and responsive healthcare to patients in the UK and internationally.

Professor Pappas is member of the BioMed Central Editorial Board, a Specialist Evaluator with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and Head of the Faculty of research and Knowledge Exchange in the Bucks of Health and Social Care Academy. Dr Pappas was an invited Member of the National Institute for Health Research Advisory Panel for Research for Patient Benefit and trained Academic GPs with the London Deanery for several years. His work on eHealth and integrated care has attracted opportunities for consultancy with foreign Ministries of Health and opportunities to advise on the development of curricula in health services research and delivery.Please see his full profile and publications
