Joseph Kiff
Research Fellow, Tackling Child Exploitation (TCE) Support Programme
I joined the Safer Young Lives Research Centre as Research Assistant for the TCE Support Programme in February 2021.
I am currently investigating racial disparities in diversion from the youth justice system (YJS) through a national project funded by the Nuffield Foundation
Prior to this, I was part of a consortium to deliver the TCE Support Programme, evaluating projects delivered to 84 local areas and the publication of the 'Multi-agency Practice Principles for responding to child exploitation and extra-familial harm'
Before joining, I worked for four years at Leeds City Council (2014-2018) in a broad range of roles: providing project support for the senior leadership teams in Children’s Services, Public Health and Citizens & Communities. The most significant experience was working as a community developer to strengthen links between patient groups, primary care settings and statutory welfare services using an asset-based approach.
As a graduate with an MSc in International Development at the University of Amsterdam, I have a background in using both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to explore the wellbeing economics of transnational communities of seafarers using a capabilities approach.
Since graduating in 2020, I returned to children’s services as a freelance research officer increasingly focused on safeguarding pressures for unaccompanied asylum seeker children in the UK and partnership work around the SEND agenda.
