Enabling Bursary
Undergraduate, Full-time students starting September 2018 Terms and Conditions
This bursary is for students who are in a situation of financial hardship, or have personal circumstances leading to a request to study elsewhere or withdraw and/or have been contacted by another HEI and given a financial incentive to request a release from the University of Bedfordshire.
This bursary is worth £3000 over 3 academic years (excluding a Professional Practice Year) provided you remain enrolled on the course at the relevant census dates. It is paid by cheque in two £500 instalments per year (1st November and 1st April) if the eligibility criteria are met. There is no application process. The bursary will be awarded automatically to those meeting the eligibility criteria.
Enabling Bursaries are only available to Home/EU students who meet the following eligibility criteria.
You must:
- Be registered on a full time, undergraduate course (excluding Nursing, Teacher Education with QTS, Social Work or a Foundation Year) based at the University of Bedfordshire’s Luton, Bedford or Milton Keynes campus
- commence your degree studies in the academic year 2018/19
- Be paying the maximum tuition fee for UK/EU students
- Be a new entrant student to the University for the 2018/19 academic year who has not previously studied at the University of Bedfordshire.
- Be a UK/EU applicant who will be paying the maximum tuition fee (including students whose fees may be paid by the SLC[2]).
- Be assessed during a telephone interview with a clearing operative on one of the following criteria:
-financial hardship
-personal circumstances leading to a request to study elsewhere or withdraw.
For example:
- Caring for relative
- Ill health
- Anxiety
- Discretionary reason
- Have been contacted by another HEI and given a financial incentive to request a release from the University of Bedfordshire.
You are not eligible for an Enabling Bursary if you are:
- An overseas or ELQ fee payer (equivalent level qualification)
- Studying at a University study centre or with a University partner
- In receipt of the EU scholarship
- Deferring study beyond a 2018/19 start date
- Studying on a Foundation Year
- Not in good financial standing with the University
The University reserves the right to withhold payment of the bursary if the bursary holder withdraws, interrupts, does not attend or otherwise does not progress satisfactorily.
With the exception of the Welcome package, you can only receive one scholarship or bursary, which will be the one that has the highest monetary value.
This bursary is not payable during a year out from on campus taught study and for which the tuition fee is £0 (such as the Professional Practice Year).
