Paul Mackie, Graduate
BSc Sport and Exercise Science, 2011-2014
MSc by Research, 2014-2015
The Sport and Exercise Science course at Bedfordshire provided me with the relevant skills, abilities and insights into scientific reading and practical knowledge needed to build a career. The facilities at Bedfordshire offers a wide variety of avenues to experience, from strength and conditioning to environmental physiology using a climate controlled chamber. The staff available also helped to progress your knowledge within your area of interest and provided you with all the relevant tools needed to succeed after your degree.
On completion of my BSc (Hons), I continued at Bedfordshire and completed an MSc (by Research) in Exercise and Health, with a focus on exercise and energy balance. The work I completed during my MSc continued from what I learnt during my undergraduate and increased my understanding of scientific research and practical application.
I am now completing a PhD (Physiotherapy) in Stroke Rehabilitation at the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute in Australia. I work within a multidisciplinary team of clinical researchers and basic scientists and perform collaborative research across Australia and the UK (University of Bedfordshire). Bedfordshire provided me with the relevant tools need to progress to this stage and to develop my career within a different area of research.
