Dr Ana Harvey
Lecturer in Law
Dr Ana Harvey is Senior Lecturer in Law and LLM Course Coordinator at School of Accounting, Finance and Law of the University of Bedfordshire.
Previously, Ana was a research fellow at Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law and a member of the International Max Planck Research School for Successful Dispute Resolution (Luxembourg and Heidelberg). Prior to joining the University of Bedfordshire, Ana was a visiting lecturer at this institution. She also taught arbitration at University of Luxembourg and Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto.
Ana holds an LLM in European and International Law from Europa-Institut, Saarland University (Germany) and a PhD in Law from the University of Luxembourg. Her doctoral thesis investigated the recent phenomenon of increased procedural transparency in investment arbitration. In particular, it focused on public hearings (the open court principle) and the practical implications that opening oral hearings to the public may have on the system of investment arbitration as a whole. Beyond the area of international arbitration, Ana’s research interests include comparative and international procedural law, including recent developments relating to: the increased use of technologies in courts and arbitration; the growing competition in the international commercial litigation market through the establishment of international commercial courts; private international law matters with regard to cross-border commercial transactions in the EU, and issues pertaining to the rule of law.
