Rob Cawston

Lecturer in Paramedic Science & Course Co-ordinator

I have a Foundation Degree in Paramedic Science, and additionally a background as a graduate at Level 6 and above, including an Honours Degree in Applied Chemistry and Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I am familiar with blended learning as my Foundation Degree was completed as a work based, distance learning degree with the Open University combined with work-based learning within the Private Sector and the NHS. I have used this good effect during my time at the University of Bedfordshire.

My commitment to a change in career reflects a desire to promote my continuous development and develop my skills and knowledge. I am a reflective practitioner and I have continued to develop and extend my skills in clinical examination and history taking, which has stemmed from a minor injuries course undertaken during my paramedic employment and again training within General Practice.  I am passionate about my subject and students have requested me as their Practice Educator whilst I was in the NHS ambulance service and whilst working in the Private Sector.

Additionally, I came to the University with a wealth of experience in education. I am a qualified secondary teacher with 26 years of experience in three diverse secondary schools in Peterborough that reached different socioeconomic cohorts and as a Private Tutor. I am also experienced in subject curriculum management. As part of my teaching management roles, I regularly coordinated the development of new schemes of work in line with curriculum changes published by the Department for Education and the Specifications published by the examination boards and co-ordinated moderation of coursework at GCSE and GCE level.

Since joining the University of Bedfordshire February 2021 as a lecturer I have been a key player in the delivery of the Paramedic Science curriculum. I am now working as Course Coordinator, leading, and managing the development of the BSc Paramedic Science course as we look forwards to developments in educational opportunities for students applying for courses leading to careers in the emergency medical services.
