Dr Jude Ominyi
Principal Lecturer Practice Learning (Interim)
Jude is a Principal Lecturer Practice Learning in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Education, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bedfordshire. Jude is an adult nursing academic with several years' experience in clinical practice and higher education sectors. Jude's clinical background is in acute general medicine and has worked in this area across different acute care settings within the NHS. Jude's early career activity was mainly teaching and supporting student nurses in developing knowledge and skills in the nursing care of individuals with needs.
Jude's teaching philosophy focuses on developing teaching styles to facilitate student learning through providing a facilitative but challenging learning environment, allowing learners the opportunity to develop subject knowledge and lifelong learning skills. Jude recognises that this requires a high degree of reflexivity and hard work to achieve.
Jude's research focuses largely on evidence based practice, predominantly exploring what works best in practice, and in what context. Jude's doctoral research involved working collaboratively with healthcare managers, senior nurses, staff nurses, and other healthcare professionals to investigate successes and failures in the implementation of clinical practice guidelines within the healthcare setting. Jude is largely a qualitative researcher with reasonable expertise in quantitative research.
Jude joined the University of Bedfordshire in 2021 and enjoys adopting a creative and innovative approach to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
As an interim Principal Lecturer in Practice Learning, Jude ensures that curriculum design and practice learning is informed by research and inquiry-based approaches to enhance the student and practice educator experience.
Jude's role is key to ensuring consistency of assessment processes across all courses and this is achieved by working closely with practice supervisors, assessors, educators and students to ensure transparency in assessment processes in addition to monitoring practice environments, auditing and preparing information for regulatory body reviews.
Jude is passionate about supporting doctoral researchers in their research ventures and is currently accepting students for supervision. Jude has supervised to successful completion Doctoral students
