Inspiring the next generation of scientists

The School of Life Sciences has strong links with local schools and the wider community.

We have initiated a variety of outreach activities and take part in national events, such as the annual Salters’ Chemistry Festival.

We have recently partnered with local colleges to give local children a taste of what it is like to process a crime scene as a forensic scientist and regularly host schools for shorter visits to our labs and other facilities.

We frequently host Nuffield internships, giving sixth form students an opportunity to experience scientific research during a summer placement.

Public lectures

Our staff present at public seminars and we have had guest speakers such as Professor Lord Robert Winston and Professor Baroness Susan Greenfield.
