James Robertson
Senior Tutor (Primary) and Course Leader for BA Primary Education with QTS 5-11
I joined the University in January 2024 as the Course Leader for Primary Education, bringing with me 19 years of experience as a primary school teacher and Senior Leader, with a specialism and keen interest in Maths.
Having worked across a variety of educational settings in Milton Keynes, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, I developed a passion for creating engaging, interactive, and fun learning experiences that inspire young learners to develop a love for learning. During my experience in primary education as a teacher and leader, it has allowed me to work with a diverse range of pupils, focusing on adaptable and inclusive teaching approach.
Throughout my career, I have developed a passion for working with trainee teachers, offering mentorship and guidance to help them develop their teaching skills and become confident teachers. I believe in developing an environment where trainee teachers feel supported, encouraged, and challenged to grow and reach their full potential. I feel honoured to be in the position of course leader and working alongside the trainee teachers at the University.
I currently teach on the BA Primary Education undergraduate courses for Years 1, 2 and 3, working with students from both the 3-7 and 5-11 pathways. I also oversee the Maths curriculum for our Primary Undergraduate QTS courses and collaborate closely with colleagues as part of the primary team across the various units delivered.
