Ousha Kissoon
Post Compulsory Education PGCE (part-time), 2016-2018
Current role
I joined Barnfield college in 2016 as a Business Lecturer.
How my course benefited me
Although qualified, it was a requirement to have a teaching qualification in this specific setting. I was over the moon when I realised that I could still study part time while being in full time employment. I enrolled on the PGCE programme on a part time basis for two years. This course was like no other courses I previously did. While in the class, I was able to reflect to my own teaching, my learners and situations in the classroom and I was able to implement what I had learnt the next day.
Campus life
The facilities provided was very good. I also enjoyed all the study days at University of Bedfordshire where I learnt a lot during workshops and with guest speakers.
What I most enjoyed about my degree and studying at the University of Bedfordshire
This course supported me make important decisions in the teaching and learning environment, understand my students and the nature education to a better extent. This course also increased my confidence as a lecturer and helps me analyse and reflect on my own performance. I enjoyed every single class and never missed once. The teaching team was incredible, professional and very supportive. Also due to the specialised nature of the course, I was able to learn from other classmates in the same position, but different settings and subject specialist.
My top tips for current students
My tips for new students are to make the most of the courses to reflect your own profession that will enable you to improve, listen to the lecturer’s advice and to make constant progression, you don’t want to leave things last minute.
