Networking and Cybersecurity
From the office to your home and car, computer networks are at the heart of modern information systems, creating a growing need for experts who understand how these systems work. To ensure people safely benefit from networked resources, data, computational services, and more, cybersecurity safeguards our network access and usage.
The Networking and Cyber Security (Portfolio) comprises:
- Expertise in computer networking, equipping students with knowledge and skills in wired and wireless network (both 802.11 series standards and 3GPP standards) installation, configuration, system administration, maintenance, and management.
- Expertise in cyber security, providing students with a deep, practical understanding of the latest security technologies, applications, and challenges. This ensures they can implement strong information security and management strategies capable of handling the ever-evolving threats posed by malware and targeted cyber-attacks.
Currently, there are two long-standing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Networking and Cyber Security. These courses are uniquely designed, it blends a wide range of cutting-edge topics in networking and network security, equipping students with both academic and industry-relevant skills to excel in their careers. The teaching is strongly informed by our research in the networking and cyber security areas.
In addition to existing postgraduate courses in these fields, we continue to develop new MSc-level courses, the latest being the MSc in Cyber Crime, Terrorism, and Security. This new course integrates the fields of cybercrime (social sciences) and cybersecurity (technology).
We are also in the process of building a cybersecurity lab (SCO Lab), which will be ready for use in the new academic year (2025–2026).
