PG Portfolio Leader for Accounting, Finance, Economics and HRM
Faculty PRME Lead
Research Leader of Centre for Contemporary Accounting, Finance and Economics Research (Res CAFE)
I am the PG Portfolio Leader for Accounting, Finance, Economics and HRM, Faculty PRME Lead, and Research Leader of the Centre for Contemporary Accounting, Finance and Economics Research (Res CAFE) at the University of Bedfordshire. I am interested in contemporary research in Corporate Governance and Sustainability Accounting. My research interest centres on how accounting practices may help business institutions to be more sustainable. My work has focused on developing organisational lenses to understand accounting for sustainable development practices in different organisational settings e.g. small and medium size businesses and higher education institutions.
My current work explores the accounting for sustainable development practices in the banking sector. I have remained fascinated by the sustainability initiatives that have been developed by accountancy profession e.g. Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Equator Principles, Global Alliance for Banking for Value and the UK Green Investment Bank.
I am interested in exploring further exemplars of how the un-sustainability report might be implemented in organisational workplaces. Furthermore, my research interests focus around the main impediments and motivations of organisational sustainability. These efforts aim to explore the fundamental meaning of organisational prosperity and durability of accounting and finance activities.
I have spent many years working in the banking industry in Egypt and the UK. I have also held research and teaching positions in accounting and finance at Aberystwyth University, the University of Derby and Keele University. I have led and taught a wide range of sustainable accounting and finance programmes. I obtained my second PhD degree from the University of Dundee in 2017. My thesis focused on exploring accounting for sustainable development practices in banks operating in the UK.

Research Interests
My research interests focus around how corporate governance and accounting for sustainable development have been imbedded in the organisational practices. This vision involves the ambition to develop organisational lenses to explore how this kind of accounting may allow or help organisations to improve their triple bottom line impact. It argues the possibility to create a positive social and environmental impact from the economic activities of banking institutions. These insights focus also on exploring the emerging organisational challenges and impediments of being more sustainable.
