Dr Quadri Ogunfemi

Tutor in Health and Social Care

Quadri Ogunfemi

I have been teaching in several educational settings since I qualified with a degree in History and Diplomatic Studies in 2009.

My teaching experience has an international angle to it as I have taught in countries like Nigeria, South Sudan and now in the UK across secondary, foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have developed a keen interest in the interaction between policy and society and I have done research in this area.

I am knowledgeable about fundamental concepts, issues, and the history of thought at the heart of selected social science disciplines with a clear understanding of the relationships between them.

This has given me the chance to teach a wide range of modules on Social Research Methods, Globalisation, Development and Transition Economics, Sociology, Healthcare, Health Services Management, and Migration Studies.

I enjoy adopting a creative and innovative approach to teaching and this is evidenced in my practice.

The course units that I teach, and my research are deeply intertwined. I passionately believe that understanding our contemporary social world demands problem-oriented research. Thus, only intellectual curiosity, systems thinking, and interdisciplinary scholarship can effectively engage with social problems.

Analysing policies and understanding the wider contexts in which they are situated is at the heart of my academic engagements. I have researched and blogged on different African countries including Nigeria, Ghana, and South Sudan.

On institutional reputation and vibrancy, I am aware of the importance of building collaborative relationships with a range of external organisations and bodies at national and international levels.

I have spent time as a Visiting Researcher at the Sudd Institute and as an Academic Visitor at the Institute for Peace, Development and Security Studies, University of Juba, both in South Sudan. I am a member of the Development Studies Association, Sustainable Sanitation Alliance, International Humanitarian Studies Association and Health Systems Global.
