Jacqueline White

Head of Centre for the Development of Social Care Practice

Jacqueline White

I have been in employ at the University of Bedfordshire since 2007. My background is working with children and families in statutory settings. I also managing a range of resources for children and Adult services in both statutory and non-statutory settings.

My interest in teaching arose as a result of initially being an on-site supervisor for social work students on placement within the organisations that I managed. I then trained and qualified as a Practice Teacher for social work students and became Manager of the CDSCP, sited in the University.

Much of my role in the CDSCP was in partnership with the Local Authority, and involved working with other such as Judges in Family Courts, Schools, Domestic abuse organisations and child advocates.

I undertook a PG degree in Family Group Conferencing via the University of Chester and developed a service which was commissioned by Local Authority and Early Help services. I was able to train students to become Family Group Conference Coordinators which contributed to the quality of the practice placements I provided for students.

My role has since evolved. I joined the Health and Social Care Course team in 2019 and aim to design and deliver the units for which I am responsible in a manner that facilitates understanding and reflects inclusivity of students from all backgrounds.

I have a passion for social justice for marginalized groups and those experiencing discrimination. I have been lecturing for a number of years and have an MA in Education. I am also a Fellow of Higher Education Academy.

My focus of interest is around the topic of Cultural Competence and Culturally Appropriate practice in Education so as to maximise opportunities for students to succeed
