About the course

It gives you the skills, knowledge and experience you need to confidently step into a career in construction, specifically into the quantity surveying speciality. It also prepares you for further study in a related degree.
Course accreditation
This Construction Surveying HTQ is approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, which is based on the same employer developed occupational standards as apprenticeships but don't require employment as an apprentice.
You can apply to join the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) upon successful completion of the course, signifying to the industry that you are a competent professional who strives for the highest possible standards.

with Professional Practice Year
This course has the option to be taken over four years which includes a year placement in industry. Undertaking a year in industry has many benefits. You gain practical experience and build your CV, as well as being a great opportunity to sample a profession and network with potential future employers.
There is no tuition fee for the placement year enabling you to gain an extra year of experience for free.

with Foundation Year
A Degree with a Foundation Year gives you guaranteed entry to an Undergraduate course.
Whether you’re returning to learning and require additional help and support to up-skill, or if you didn’t quite meet the grades to pursue an Undergraduate course, our Degrees with Foundation Year provide a fantastic entry route for you to work towards a degree level qualification.
With our guidance and support you’ll get up to speed within one year, and will be ready to seamlessly progress on to undergraduate study at Bedfordshire.
The Foundation Year provides an opportunity to build up your academic writing skills and numeracy, and will also cover a range of subject specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree.
This is an integrated four-year degree, with the foundation year as a key part of the course. You will need to successfully complete the Foundation Year to progress on to the first year of your bachelor’s degree.

Course Leader - Accursio Dimino
Accursio Dimino is a true construction professional, not only has he experience of working in UK but also in Australia and Europe. Accursio has successfully developed commercial sites, and refurbished buildings, and having sold the portfolio decided to devote some of his time to training future developers and construction professionals. He has been involved in education for more than 25 years. During this time he has worked for Aylesbury, Barnfield and St Albans Colleges. He is a graduate of Oxford Brooks University in two subjects, as well as PG from University of Bedfordshire. Pragmatic approach to teaching is what Accursio is all about, he shares his knowledge and experience with his students and draws on his real experience in his daily frontline approach to teaching.
What will you study?
Studying our Construction Surveying Cert HE (HTQ) course will equip you with practical knowledge and skills in construction quantity surveying. This course will assist you to build a good foundation of knowledge and introduce you to the key principles of economics within the UK construction industry in our Introduction to Construction Economics unit. Here, you will explore the significance of economic principles to the industry and identify business operations and commercial risk. To ensure your safety in a construction environment, our unit in Academic and Computer Skills, Health and Safety will allow you to understand and use the knowledge of health and safety legislation.
To ensure a successful project, you will explore the role of quantity surveying and its influence on economic construction in our Project Management and Cost Control for Quantity Surveying Technicians unit. More importantly, you will learn to exercise cost control and implement financial control processes to ensure that contract documents are adhered to. Furthermore, you will explore how quantity surveyors directly influence the production of construction in our Contract Administration and Quantity Surveying Practice unit.
Here, you will discover different types of construction contracts, how they are implemented, cost control approaches and the financial or legal constraints that can arise from a project. Another essential element to consider within the construction industry is sustainable practice, and this is where our Sustainability, Environment and Construction Technology unit will allow you to explore sustainability related issues and construction techniques.
