What will you study?
Studying our Construction Management (Top-up) BSc (Hons) course will allow you to build on your knowledge and skills in design and construction. In core areas of study, our Construction Project Management unit will equip you with the knowledge, understanding and experience in effective project management in construction to meet time and budget constraints. Furthermore, when working in construction, it is also important to ensure construction projects deliver a profit. This is where our Construction Economics unit will expose you to principles and technologies within the field such as budgeting or cost and value management that you can use to achieve commercial and contractual outcomes.
In other areas of study, sustainability has now become a major influence on construction projects, and you will explore this in our Emerging Technologies and Sustainability unit. You will investigate emerging technologies used in current construction methods while critically analysing its importance within sustainability and financial implications. Additionally, you will advance your knowledge and practical skills around procurement law and risk management techniques for construction in our Contract Procurement and Risk Management unit.
Finally, you will complete an Honours Project where you will be able to apply your skills, knowledge and creativity to a project of interest to you that is relevant to your field of study. Through evaluating research and literature, you will demonstrate in-depth knowledge in your chosen topic related to the construction industry while also presenting conclusions and recommendations for complex problems in the field.
How will you be assessed?
A range of assessment methods are used throughout the course. The types of assessment used range from practical work which assesses the practical application of knowledge and concepts gained in lectures seminars and also from learning acquired during self-study through to presentation and report based assessments. Time controlled in-class tests are also utilised to allow the students to experience and adjust to industry requirements.

Key industry bodies have indicated a huge projected demand for and shortages of construction professionals and technical staff.
This will offer a range of opportunities to our construction management graduates across different sectors disciplines and projects to fill that skills gap and to provide high-quality input where it’s most needed in the industry.
The course has been designed to deliver ‘industry-ready’ graduates who have the skills and knowledge to work at a professional standard and have a high-level of understanding of industry demands.
The course has also been developed to provide graduates with different career options and to follow various career paths depending on their particular fields of interest. In the past our graduates have gone on to work for local authorities housing associations large medium and small building contractors as well as specialist consultancies and agencies.
Job roles that graduates have taken have included site managers project planners project managers surveyors and estimators.
On successful completion of this degree past students have also gone on to continue with their academic qualifications by enrolling on Masters degree-level courses.
