Part 1: Practice Supervisor & Practice Assessor

Introduction

Part 1 is designed for nursing staff who have completed their preceptorship (NHS). It is recognised that staff who are currently completing the preceptorship programme are also learning, but may undertake Part 1 six months after the start of their first clinical post.

Learning outcomes

By the end of Part 1 you will be able to:

  1. Describe the roles of the Practice Supervisor (PS), Practice Assessor (PA) and Academic Assessor (AA)
  2. Understand and be able to use the coaching GROW model.
  3. Describe the importance of 'feedback' and 'feed forward'.
  4. Understand the process of raising concerns.
  5. Identify appropriate learning outcomes relevant to level of study and support students to write their own.
  6. Describe how to prepare a student for the assessment of an episode of care.
