Professor of Public Health Equality

I am a professor of Public Health Equality and Course Lead for the MSc Public Health. I teach on a range of health and social care courses and lead the Health and Social Care Inequalities unit for the MSc Public Health, which is delivered in Luton, Myanmar and Guyana. I also lead the Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Integrated Care System (ICS) Inclusive Workforce Research Programme and the Health Education England (HEE) Workforce Development for Integrated Care Research Programme.

My multidisciplinary, collaborative and applied research provides evidence for reducing health inequalities focussing on taking an intersectional approach to look at variations in health outcomes based on a range of protected characteristics (sex, gender, ethnicity, age, and social categories (SES, geographical location) and how these affect the experience of health and social care. The aim of my research is to improve the health and social care outcomes for marginalised and disadvantaged communities across the life-course by influencing policy, design and delivery of inclusive and responsive services, locally, nationally and internationally. My research uses innovative ways to engage with diverse communities to involve the lesser heard voices. I have developed pathways for inclusive community engagement strengthening prevention and early intervention to address the variations in health and social care outcomes within and between groups.
