I have a DPhil in Education and an MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition from the University of Oxford. I worked for five years as a Senior Research Manager at Cambridge Assessment before joining CRELLA in 2017. I have extensive experience delivering seminars and workshops on language assessment for international language testing associations and have led the design and implementation of multiple projects for exam boards such as the British Council, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and the Educational Testing Service. CRELLA feels like a close-knit family to me and I am proud to be part of its success story.


I research the assessment of language skills, especially spoken language; eq(ual)ity, diversity and inclusion in assessment, and the impact of technology and multimodality on language testing.


I am currently the Chair of the British Association of Applied Linguistics Testing, Evaluation and Assessment Special Interest Group (2023-2025) and a member of the AHRC Peer Review College (2022-2025). I served as the Finance Lead and Steering Committee Member for the UK Association for Language Testing and Assessment (UKALTA) in 2018-2021 and acted as chair for the association’s annual conference in 2018. I have acted as reviewer for several journals such as Applied Linguistics, Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, and Assessment in Education


I welcome proposals for supervision from postgraduate research students in all aspects of language assessment. My main interests are in the assessment of spoken language, fairness, eq(ual)ity, diversity and inclusion in assessment, and the impact of technology and multimodality on language learning and assessment.
