About the course

Spanning the fields of education and business, this distance-learning Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Educational Leadership and Management develops the understanding and skills needed to make decisions at senior level in schools and other educational organisations. Alongside exploring the theories that underpin successful leadership, the course examines the contemporary issues faced by schools, focusing on policy development and people management. You also explore the intricate systems senior staff must now work with, gaining the skills to analyse and evaluate large datasets.

Your student experience

This distance-learning course is delivered via online taught sessions, reading and digital resources, and is supported by individual tutorials and online activities.

The University of Bedfordshire’s School of Education has a strong track record in providing distance- and blended-learning courses and is equipped to fully support students with their online studies. Our academic team has a range of experience in management and leadership in education across mainstream and specialist educational institutions; primary education; secondary education; and further and higher education.

The course has been developed by staff with a research background in educational leadership and management. Units and assignments can be personalised, focusing on leadership and management development in your institution, so you are able to explore key issues for your setting. Learn how to analyse and evaluate complex, large-scale data to ensure the smooth functioning of your school.

Explore how to plan strategically in the long term; develop school policy; manage and drive change; and embed change within an institution. You have the opportunity to attend our on-campus summer school where you will meet other professionals and guest presenters; to attend, international students only require a standard visitor’s visa.

The course culminates in an applied project that explores an aspect of leadership and management in your setting in critical detail.

On successful course completion, you are prepared for a diverse range of employment opportunities in education, including in schools and further/higher education. The course is aimed at those wishing to progress to middle and senior leadership roles in education, including executive head; professional services’ leadership roles; and similar or wider educational roles internationally.
