Bedford campus parking and transport for students
Parking at the University of Bedfordshire's Bedford campus is very limited. However, we have invested heavily in alternatives, so that most students will find there is no need to go to the expense of buying and running a car.
We strongly recommend making use of the free shuttle bus service. The shuttle bus is provided by the University and runs every 30 minutes during term time between Bedford campus and the Alexander Sports Centre via Bedford town centre and the station.
Bedford has an extensive cycle track network, and being fairly flat is extremely easy to get around by bike. Sheltered bike racks have been installed at Bedford campus, where shower and changing facilities and lockers are also provided.
There are two main car parks with marked bays and an overspill car park set out on the
Bedford Campus. Students and staff will have two options to park on campus. They can choose to opt into
the a parking permit scheme or they can opt to use the pay to park option, tariffs for which are below:
- 1.5 hours 70p
- Up to 3 hours £1
- Up to 4 hours £1.50
- Up to 5 hours £2.50
- Day ticket (7am – 11pm) £6
- Overnight (11pm – 7am) £6
Tariff will be applicable 24/7 - 365 days - Where there is a University agreed promotional event or recruitment event e.g. Open Day, the
daily tariff charges will be suspended and notices will be posted to advise users accordingly.
Student permit scheme:
Students who hold a valid student registration are able to request a monthly permit to park at
£10 per month. The permit will be available via monthly Direct Debit subscription.
Subscriptions may be cancelled up to the 21st of each month but no refunds will be available for part
months not used
A limited number of season permits are available. To apply for a season permit please email Facilities and Estates carparking@beds.ac.uk
Car sharing
If you don't already know anyone to share a car with, your placement organisers may be able to put you in touch with someone suitable. Even sharing a journey some of the time will help spread the cost of running and parking your car.
Access for disabled students
The University of Bedfordshire recognises our responsibility to ensure that facilities are appropriate and accessible for all students.
The University's free shuttle bus has a low platform and wheelchair access.
Drivers who are blue badge holders are entitled to free annual car permits.
