The project is part of AgriTT programme funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), UK. AgriTT brings development practice and research expertise from China, the UK and developing countries in Africa and Southeast Asia together to improve food security through technology transfer and knowledge sharing.
This project addresses one of the key programme themes: working with China to accelerate agricultural technology transfer to low income countries.
Aim and objectives
The project aims to improve the knowledge and information dissemination flow in the rural area of Cambodia by adapting China’s experience and use of mobile Internet and other latest ICT technologies.
Project Specific objectives include:
- Increase Cambodia’s capacity on agricultural information dissemination through adaptation of Chinese experience in application of Mobile Internet and GIS based technologies
- Increase the volume of useful agricultural information received by Cambodian farmers
- Improve farmers’ interactive accessibility to knowledge and information resources by using mobile Internet technologies
This project has two phases. Phase one aims to combine Chinese technologies for information sharing using smart phones and SMS with Cambodian data to promote effective and efficient agricultural information dissemination. It covers the following activities:

Systematically review Chinese models, best practice and experience,

Investigate Cambodian agricultural information dissemination situation and propose the development model,

Innovate Cambodian agricultural dissemination and promote AgriApp platform
Phase two aims to enhance the project impact through the following activities:
- System design, AgriApp upgrade and system testing
- System installation and deployment in Cambodia
- Training of trainers - Two Training Sessions on how to use the App and system
- Training for extension in pilot areas (on a village/commune/district level)
- Project dissemination, Guidance of the use of the system, Pilot result summary and final project report.
