Critical Writing workshop
Reading Club for Sustainability and Business Research
Dr Mohamed Saeudy, Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, delivered a workshop on critical academic writing skills, which was open to all staff members and students in the business school and in the whole university (12th June 2017). This session was part of the regular reading club activities on sustainability and business research, which is led by Dr Saeudy.
The workshop focussed on:
- (i) crafting academic argument claims and warrants,
- (ii) writing up waves and how to move between theoretical themes and actual practices,
- (iii) producing theory from empirical data (grounded theory),
- (iv) developing productive and practical approaches to academic writing,
- (v) understanding the triangulation between reliability, validity and generalisability,
- (vi) other skills in the academic writing such as academic reflection.
The session was well attended by 24 BMRI PGR students and a staff member. Feedback from the audience highlighted that they benefited from the workshop as it encouraged them to develop productive and practical approaches to their writing up process.
A previous reading club session was held on 23rd May 2017 and was titled 'Introduction to sustainable accounting and finance'.
