BISC Research Seminar
BISC organised a research seminar on 22 May 2017 that was attended by about 15 staff members and research students.
Dr Jasmine Haj Reza Tehrani presented her research on 'Health Informatics: A Semiotic Oriented Method for Improving the NHS Service Quality'. She argued that large numbers of people continue to be successfully cared for and treated in the National Health Service, but a significant number of errors and other forms of harm occur. These errors are mainly a result of human error or occur in consequence of poor process, procedure and control design.
In her research, a semiotic approach is used to generate clinical pathways by capturing knowledge from syntactic level to social level and guiding the modelling of clinical pathways using Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) best practice to visualise the process. The research will result in more rigorous control and visibility of the care process ensuring completeness, consistency and patient safety by enabling the mapping of formal and informal/safety controls into clinical pathways.
The following PhD students also presented their research:
- Maged Zakher (left) discussed his study on 'The Use of Sacred Texts as Tools to Enhance Research Interview Dynamics'.
- Ammar Hussain (centre) explored issues on 'Impulse Buying Behaviour of Pakistani Consumers'.
- Ekaterina Kuzmina (right) shared her research findings on 'The Meanings of 'Organic' Branding in the Russian skincare industry'
