Projects
RLAP is a clinical legal education project which provides free legal assistance to refugees who wish to bring their family members to the United Kingdom, and is run by CRiL in conjunction with Bedfordshire Refugee and Asylum Seekers Support (BRASS)
See the Refugee Legal Assistance Project for client, partner and volunteer comments, and some new videos.
Families Together Research Project
Together with organisations such as the British Red Cross, Amnesty International and the Refugee Council, CRiL participates in the activities of the Families Together Coalition, which campaigns for an expansion of the rules on refugee family reunion in the UK.
The Families Together research project explores challenges and prospects for reform of the laws and policies relating to refugee family reunion in the UK. The project provides an analysis of the UK rules on refugee family reunion, and an assessment of those rules against the background of the UK’s obligations under international and European law.
The project further links these findings with the individual experiences of refugees and service providers in the UK, exploring the effects of the withdrawal of legal aid for refugee family reunion as a result of LASPO and the challenges posed by Brexit.
The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the complexities of the legal and policy framework for refugee family reunification in the UK and of the challenges faced by refugees seeking to be reunited with their families in the UK.
