Programme delivery

The programme combines classroom and practical work-based learning. Apprentices extend their classroom learning through their workplace practice, collecting evidence of learning applied, for example through project work, business enquiry and a portfolio. Delivery can be configured to suit employer needs. There is also the option of delivery at the employer’s workplace for groups of 10 or more.

Duration

Typically 48 months. Intakes are in September, January and June in our Luton campus.

Bio

My background before coming to the University of Bedfordshire was in Colleges where I held several Departmental Manager roles. My teaching experience is considerable, with the majority of it being at higher level and linked to work based learning. The most enjoyable and valuable part of working directly with companies is that it enables me to be up-to-date with the day to day work and culture of a number of different organisations at any one time.

My EDI role encompasses my wish to see every student become the best they can, whoever they are, and wherever they have come from, and I am very aware of the importance of helping individuals overcome any barriers they find along the way. The building of confidence and development of behaviours, knowledge and skills that is central to an apprenticeship fits my values perfectly.

My involvement with apprenticeships at the University of Bedfordshire

As a staff member who has been involved since the very start of apprenticeships at this University I have seen the provision grow and improve in the past few years, culminating in the Ofsted Good grade awarded to us in 2023. As a University providing Higher and Degree apprenticeships we are able to excel in the teaching quality we provide as our lecturers and tutors are specialists in their field – with both industry experience and research skills.

From the very start I have been able to apply my experience of work based learning and running management training and integrate this with the rigour of the academic University support structures. For the past 5 years I have worked as a tutor delivering the Human Side of Project Management to Project Management apprentices, as well as the role of apprenticeship Co-ordinator which means working with the apprentice and their employers to provide good linkage and communication between the training provider, the employer and the apprentice.

Recently, I have been involved in the curriculum design of both the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship and the Operations or Departmental Manager apprenticeship designing the overall course and detail for three units which sit within this suite of apprenticeships.  Our new carousel of apprenticeships mean that a new starter can join at various points in the year, and not have to wait to get started till the next September.

My experience with Ofsted, the professional bodies, working with individual students and employers, plus a love of working with the local community and putting on events means this is a job I do with pleasure.

The Chartered Manager Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship

Myself a Chartered Manager and experienced tutor and programme manager with CMI, I am keen to enable up and coming talented Managers young and more experienced to gain the theory, skills and prestige of gaining a degree and obtaining Chartered Manager status.  With excellent industry links and academic support, a vibrant campus with seven floors of state of the art library facilities, a free gym, bar, cafes and restaurants the University of Bedfordshire offers the best of both worlds.
