Apprentice: Application information

Image for page Apprentice: Application information

In order to enrol on an apprenticeship of your choice you will need to be employed by an organisation who are willing to sponsor your training – the course is paid for using the employer’s apprenticeship levy. The University of Bedfordshire sets up a contract directly with the employers.

We recommend contacting the Education or Apprenticeship Lead or the HR at your workplace to discuss your professional development opportunities. Then, either you or your employer should fill in the enquiry form and someone will be in touch with the next steps.

Apprenticeship funding rules

To comply with the apprenticeship funding rules the following employment arrangements must be in place:

  • If the apprentice has more than one employer at any time, then only one of these employers can be used for the purposes of the apprenticeship.

  • The apprentice must be included in the PAYE scheme declared in the apprenticeship service account.

  • The minimum duration of each apprenticeship is based on the apprentice working at least 30 hours per week for the employer that funds the apprenticeship.

  • The employment contract must be long enough for the apprentice to complete the apprenticeship and end-point assessment.

  • The apprentice must have a separate identifiable line manager to undertake the role of 'employer', as defined by the funding rules.
