One lucky Television Production student from the University of Bedfordshire is set to undertake work experience with popular BBC programme ‘The One Show’, as part of an annual scheme nurturing new talent.

The placement, which will run for one week in April 2024, is run in conjunction with the University and will give the successful student the opportunity to get first-hand experience of working on a busy, daily live production as well as having access to industry experts who are on hand to provide career advice.

Each placement is tailored to the area of interest of the individual student. Opportunities include working alongside the live team to see how the programme is put together from initial ideas to live broadcast; working with the VT team to gain an insight into the production of ‘The One Show’ films; and placements on the studio floor learning more about crew roles and camera work.

Bedfordshire will provide a student placement on the show giving aspiring directors and filmmakers the opportunity to perfect their production skills learnt in the classroom.

Anthony Greenbank, Senior Lecturer in Film & Television Production, said: “This is such a great opportunity for our students! We are really lucky to have been selected as one of the universities to feed in to this placement scheme with The One Show. The programme is one of the most recognisable shows on television; it’s an amazing credit to have on the CV and I’m sure our students will learn an awful lot in their time with The One Show production team.”

This is just one of the exciting work experience opportunities for students studying with the School of Arts & Creative Industries to help them gain industry experience while studying practical courses. Last year, Media Make-Up & Character Design students created spooky looks for thrill-seekers at a Halloween ‘scream park’.
