Throughout February 2024, the University of Bedfordshire is hosting a number of outreach events to help contribute to the development of an inclusive health and social care workforce.

The Collaborative Targeted Outreach Programme (CTOP) aims to engage with young people, parents, career-switchers, and under-represented groups from diverse ethnic backgrounds to improve their knowledge and perceptions of nursing, midwifery, allied health professions and social work.

Click here for more information and to sign up to these events on one of the dates below:

  • Saturday 3 February, 11am – 3.30pm (Milton Keynes)
  • Saturday 10 February, 11am – 3.30pm (Bedford)
  • Saturday 17 February, 11am – 3.30pm (Luton)

At these interactive events, attendees can find out more about courses and careers in health and social care and will have the opportunity to hear personal career stories, take part in debates, and much more.

Alongside these community sessions, the University will also be hosting two outreach events targeted at local schools, encouraging pupils to think about a career in health and social care.

These outreach events closely tie in with the University’s Civic Agreement commitments alongside Luton Council, as well as the priorities of the Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System (BLMK ICS)

Professor Nasreen Ali, Professor of Public Health Equality at the University of Bedfordshire, said: “We want to engage and inspire our communities in Luton, Bedford and Milton Keynes so that they feel comfortable to consider health and social care courses and careers because a workforce that reflects the communities it serves and is culturally responsive is linked to improvements in quality of care for patients, better patient adherence to medical and self-care regimes, and improved outcomes.”

To attend, you must be living in Luton, Bedford, Central Bedfordshire or Milton Keynes and be aged 14 or over. An adult is required to accompany those aged under 16.
